Begin your historical tour of Trumbull County by visiting the “First Flight” Lunar Landing Module, a replica of the Apollo 11 landing module that marks the spot where America’s first astronaut to land on the moon, Neil Armstrong, took his first airplane ride at the age of six.

Then head to Millionaires Row in the heart of the Mahoning Avenue Historic District in downtown Warren (a walking tour map of this area is available at the Tourism Office). Here you’ll see architecture that was prominent during the Victorian era. Recognized as national treasures, many of these structures were once stately homes and mansions. Today they house businesses, offices and museums, including the Perkins Mansion, which has served as Warren’s City Hall since 1934.

A self-guided tour of the Perkins Mansion will take you through the first and second floors of the structure. Located next door to the mansion is Women’s Park. Following the tour of the mansion, cross the street and head to the Sutliff Museum, located on the second floor of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library.

The Sutliff Museum features the life and times of the Sutliff family, who were very active in Trumbull County’s abolition movement and played significant roles in the Underground Railroad.

The library is a designated Freedom Station of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, and features an exhibit that details local anti-slavery sentiments from the 1820s to the 1850s. The display can be found outside the doors of the Sutliff Museum.

Then take a short ride up the street to the National Packard Museum for a look at the history of the Packard Motor Car and other Packard family enterprises. The museum features a Antique Motorcycle Show every January through May and hosts its Annual Packard Car Show every July. A stop at the museum gift shop is a must!

Then it’s off to Niles for a stop at the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial, which honors William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States. McKinley, who was born and raised in Niles, was the last Civil War veteran to become President. The site features the McKinley Museum and the McKinley Memorial Library. On display in the museum are many items from McKinley’s presidential campaign. Within easy walking distance is the McKinley Birthplace Home and Research Center, which is a replica of the house originally built at the same location where McKinley lived with his family until the 1840s.

Begin your tour of Amish Country in Mesopotamia, Ohio, home of the fourth-largest Amish community in the country. The center of town, better known as the “Commons,” is surrounded by 28 buildings, with 21 of the 28 built before the Civil War. Designated as a National Historic District, this area sits adjacent to Fairview Cemetery which features unique headstones hand-carved by Mesopotamia native Henry Bridgon.

A visit to Amish Country isn’t complete unless it includes a stop at the End of the Commons General Store. One of the oldest general stores in the state, it’s been in continuous operation since 1840. This family-owned operation not only serves the local Amish community but it provides visitors with a glimpse into the past.

Across from the store and adjacent to the Commons sits the world’s largest Amish horse and buggy which stands 14-feet high and 32-feet long.

Next, it’s on to Ridgeview Farm. Tour this working farm and on-site Amish Educational Center. Don’t forget to check out the farm market for fresh seasonal produce.

Across the road is the Amish home of Emma Slaubaugh and her family. If you have a group of 15 or more, end your visit to Amish Country by enjoying an Amish Wedding Feast prepared by Emma. Advance reservations are a required and must be made one week prior to your visit. The menu features baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, seasonal vegetables, seven-layer salad, fresh bread and Amish pies. Hear you can learn about Amish culture as Emma and her family describe the Amish way of life.

Start with a visit to Fellows Riverside Garden, located in Mill Creek Park in Youngstown, Ohio. This 12-acre display garden features a landscape of diverse and colorful plant displays, roses of all classes, seasonal displays of annuals, perennials and flowering bulbs and scenic vistas.

Leave Youngstown and head north to historic downtown Warren for a look at Women’s Park. Located south of the Perkins Mansion (Warren City Hall) along historic Millionaires’ Row, this beautifully landscaped park, which features walkways, courtyards and a stone bridge spanning a brook, is dedicated to women, both past and present, who have made a difference throughout the local communities. The gardens are lovingly maintained by volunteers from the Upton Association.

Then it’s off to the Trumbull County Agriculture and Family Education Center in Cortland. Here you’ll find the Trumbull County Master Gardeners outdoor Floriculture Gardens, which features more than 12 themed plats and the children's garden Sunplace Special.

Check out the National Packard Museum, which features the luxurious designs and state-of-the-art engineering of the Packard Motor Car. Learn about the Packard Family and the history of various Packard enterprises, including the roles WD and JW Packard played in the development of the Packard Motor Car during the early 1900s.

Following your visit to the museum, head to Sharon Speedway in Hartford, an auto racing tradition since 1929. This 3/8-mile semi-banked oval dirt track is co-owned by Hartford native and NASCAR driver Dave Blaney and his family. Race season begins in April and extends to September. Board an African safari truck at Wagon Trails Animal Park in Vienna, Ohio. Here you’ll roam with the buffalo while experiencing the thrill of a safari ride. Feed over 350 animals from around the world as you travel through the 65-acre compound.

Then check out the Aquarium at the Eastwood Mall in Niles, Ohio. This three-tank aquarium is one of the first of its kind located in a shopping complex and features a 4,500-gallon shark tank surrounded by two 2,500-gallon tanks filled with a variety of salt water fish and live coral.

Head just north of the mall on U.S. Route 422 to spend the afternoon playing miniature golf at the only authentic Putt Putt Golf Course in the area. This 54-hole course, which has been in operation for over 35 years, will challenge both the beginner and the experienced.

Cap off the day with a movie at the Elm Road Triple Drive-In. This family-owned and operated Warren landmark has been in business for over 60 years. It’s the perfect location to see the stars under the stars and watch first-run double-features for one low price. There’s a playground on the premises for the kids.
